Overview
Yes, I am inspired by Henri Cartier Bresson because there is something beautifully honest about freezing people's actions in time. Unposed photos are a valuable record of humanity in time. They are valuable in the present, exposing valuable psychological and cultural behavior that can enlighten our lives and when looking back to the past to see what we were like for better or worse. I love taking candid photos of cultures I love and then sharing them with you. More than love, also respect, admire, and value. I have often felt torn between photography as art and as documentary. Now I feel happy about documentary because I want the world, the Western world, to see the value Eastern culture has. In the East people forage for food, love buddha, have close nit families and often build their own homes. There are many things that the West can glean from the East to make life better, sustainable, and peaceful. In 2024 the West is close to bankrupt, where many people wish to be millionaires, thinking only about themselves. Absorbed in technology, consuming and power. And less interested in love, family, relationship, and community. With these photos I hope you can glean alternatives to the non-sustainable Western lifestyle. Physical and spiritual. Buddhism teaches humility, clear thinking, and compassion. Foraging mushrooms, fish and herbs is a sustainable and healthy way to eat. Living with grandparents, parents, brothers, and sisters gives people a sense of belonging and security.
