Overview
If you are born in America, you are born into a race. It is not a metaphor we choose; it is the atmosphere we breathe. From the moment we are old enough to understand the concept
of grades, or salaries, or zip codes, we are taught that life is a vertical climb. We are told that there is a summit, a place of safety, wealth, and status, and that the only way to get there
is to run faster, work harder, and climb higher than the person standing next to us.
We are fed the mythology of the ascent. We are told that the race is fair. We are told that the track is level. We are told that the winners standing at the top are there because they possess superior intellect, better morals, or a stronger work ethic. I am writing this book because that is a lie.
