Overview
"The topics covered by some existing chapters will recombined into new chapters as suggested by reviewers (see list of new chapter above). More emphasis will be placed on nutrition, aquariums and aquatic exhibits, the disease surveillance role of zoos and sustainability. The work will include more information on lower vertebrates and invertebrates than was the case in the first edition. More case studies will also be added. Chapter 5 will include a wider range of conservation laws relevant to zoos that is the case in the first edition, along with a consideration of recent legal cases involving zoos (e.g. cases concerning the welfare of elephants, apes and marine mammals, and those concerning the importation of elephants from the wild). Each chapter will conclude with more exercises for students and discussion points for lecturers. The last chapter will introduce methods for studying animals in zoos. The current edition has half tone illustrations. I think it would be useful to add some colour figures, especially to improve Appendix I on animal classification. The competing text -- Zoo Animals -- currently has colour plates"-- Provided by publisher.
