History remembers Jackson Speed as a hero.Jackson Speed remembers things a little differently.The discovery of Jackson Speed's long-lost memoirs shatters the reputation of one of Nineteenth Century America's most celebrated personalities. War hero, filibusterer, Pinkerton agent, Old West gunslinger, a Forty-Niner who actually struck it rich ... Jackson Speed did it all.But in his previously unpublished memoirs, readers find what he truly was: Coward, braggart, philanderer ... a rascal of the truest form. And in The Hero of El Teneria, volume one of the Jackson Speed Memoirs, readers discover the origin of this recreant.He never intended to become a soldier. He certainly never intended to become a war hero. But when a jealous husband comes looking for blood, young Jackson Speed discovers that marching off to war in Mexico with a company of Georgia volunteers might be safer than staying home.Unfortunately for him, the Mexican army is shooting back.It's 1846, and while the United States marches toward its Manifest Destiny, Ol' Speedy would rather be marching the other way. Fighting alongside Jefferson Davis's Mississippians and the Texas Rangers, somehow this shameless scoundrel becomes a legend.Told through Speed's own scandalously candid memoirs, this rollicking historical adventure blends real battles, legendary figures, dangerous women, narrow escapes, and wicked humor into an unforgettable journey through the century that made America.From the Mexican-American War to the California Gold Rush, the Civil War, and the Wild West, Jackson Speed will spend a lifetime making history - while trying desperately to avoid becoming part of it.The history is true. The fiction is fun. And Jackson Speed is the narrator American History has been waiting for.Grab your copy today and start the adventure ", "item_img_path" : "https://covers1.booksamillion.com/covers/bam/1/47/831/013/1478310138_b.jpg", "price_data" : { "retail_price" : "14.50", "online_price" : "14.50", "our_price" : "14.50", "club_price" : "14.50", "savings_pct" : "0", "savings_amt" : "0.00", "club_savings_pct" : "0", "club_savings_amt" : "0.00", "discount_pct" : "10", "store_price" : "" } }
