Movie Reviews
Reviews:
3 stars out of 4 -- "Even more effective than the horror elements of Argentine director Andy Muschietti’s adaptation is the unexpected humor he reveals in the story -- and, ultimately, the humanity." - 09/08/2017 RogerEbert.com
"Muschietti has constructed a film that’s just as much STAND BY ME as creature feature, and casting director Rich Delia goes above the call of duty assembling a group of youngsters who are every bit as funny, irritating and empathetic as the script requires." - 09/05/2017 Variety
"Andy Muschietti directs this visually splendid but thematically toned-down interpretation with finesse, crafting a world rich in detail where menace lurks in every shadow." - 09/07/2017 Los Angeles Times
3 stars out of 4 -- "[A] crowdpleasing frightfest....That evil clown Pennywise, a spectacularly scary Bill Skarsgard, is the stuff of nightmares." - 09/06/2017 Rolling Stone
"[A] bold, intense, beautifully paced, wickedly hilarious, seriously scary and gorgeously terrifying period-piece work that instantly takes its place among the most impressively twisted horror movies of our time." - 09/06/2017 Chicago Sun-Times
4 stars out of 5 -- "[T]he real reason IT works is because it takes time with the kids, revelling in their colourful lingo and comradeship as much as their fears. The young cast is excellent, with special call-outs for Lillis and Lieberher..." - 09/03/2017 Total Film
4 stars out of 5 --- "Skarsgård leaves a hell of an impression. His performance is full of strange nuance and wit, with subtle touches..." - 09/06/2017 Empire
"Call it a symphony of orchestral meta-horror, an elaborate waking nightmare in which you, as the dreamer, are constantly reminded of what the film is trying to do, and yet are powerless to stop it." - 09/07/2017 Washington Post
"The young performers are good across the board, and manage the tricky feat of carrying a film with no meaningful adult lead." - 09/08/2017 The Atlantic
