Just Fckn Get On With It! : Overcoming adversity & living life on your own terms
Overview
It's hard choosing a book by someone you've never heard of. So here's a taste to see if you fancy reading more...
"Would I change any of it? Yes, of course I would. Would I change all of it? No, absolutely not." "...it's just a weird way to start a conversation with a stranger.'Hi, I'm Nicky, my daughter died.'
Who does that?" "It's ok to live in that dark place for a while, as long as you don't stay there." "Just fucking getting on with it has never been about pretending everything is ok. It's not about toxic positivity. It's about accepting that shitty things sometimes happen but choosing to keep going anyway." If any of these made you feel something, you'll get on with the rest of it. Dark humour included. 'In her brilliant book Nicky shares life altering moments, the lows, the highs, the tears and the laughs of her years, including the death of her daughter, a terrorist attack in Bali and her MS diagnosis. Through her words there are many pearls of wisdom, including the big one, 'Just Fckn Get On With It'.'
Praise for the Book
"I've laughed, cried, I felt very humbled, I felt inspired, I have remembered friends and family past and present who have had similar experiences which made me happy and sad. What a wonderfully thought provoking honestly written book."
Karen Lari
"'Just Fckn Get On With It' is the true tale of having no choice other than to do just that. This is a story of hope, of living life on your own terms with courage and determination. You will smile, you may laugh, a tear could be shed, but overall this is a book to make you feel and be seen. Full of adventure, challenge, and resilience. You will end this with a voice inside saying 'I can do this'"

About NickyNicky Merrick is a writer, speaker and entrepreneur who talks about resilience, grief, disability and getting on with living when life doesn't go to plan. She has a degree in journalism, but never actually worked as a journalist. She's been a motorbike courier and rugby player in Adelaide, a costume maker for competitive pole dancers, a photographer of alternative events like tattoo conventions, faery festivals and Pagan weddings, ran an eco cleaning company with her husband who she also co-owned a live music venue and nightclub with.
Along the way she was diagnosed with MS and became a wheelchair user, got caught up in the 2002 Bali bombings and in 2024 her eldest daughter Imogen died. None of it stopped her building a life she's proud of. She home educated her son until he was sixteen and is a director of Rainbow HE Events, a festival for home educating families.
Nicky lives in Lincolnshire with her husband Mr C, their son Zed and Rocky the Newfoundland. She firmly believes that happiness and joy can be found when you choose to make it happen. These days she's happiest at home crocheting and growing tomatoes, but she's always up for another adventure.
