Overview
Lingāyatas are the followers of the Philosophy and practices put forward by Basavanna and his contemporaries of the twelfth century CE. These Sharanas reformed the then existing Philosophy and practices of the Veerashaivas. The practitioners of this faith were subsequently called as Lingāyatas.
Lingāyata Philosophy is Theistic Monism. Everything is only one and everything is in the consciousness of the Absolute Divine.
The Philosophy and practices of this Lingāyata faith have been documented in the vachanas. The vachana literature is the basic scripture of the Lingāyatas. In this book, the essence of Advaita Philosophy has been extracted from these vachanas. The philosophy that has been brought out by this extraction is the Linga-advaita Philosophy. It cannot be anything other than Lingaadvaitism (Lingādvaitism).
