Overview
Listen For It is the fourth book in Gerry's Campfire Adventures, a ten book Australian bedtime picture book series for children aged 3 to 7.
On a warm afternoon on the farm, Gerry the Giraffe and his friend Joey the Kangaroo are trusted with a simple job. Carry an invitation to Milo, who is coming for a campfire that night. They follow the three landmarks Mr. H gave them, the water tank, the red gate, and the big gum tree. Then a gust of wind takes the letter, they chase it around a bend, and the landmarks are gone.
What follows is not a panic, and not a clever trick. It is something quieter. Joey sits down in the dust and remembers what Mr. H always says. When you do not know where you are, stop and listen. They go still. They hear the cows in the home paddock. They hear a galah near Milo's tree. And they find their way home by the sounds they already knew.
I made this book because being lost, or not knowing, does not have to be an emergency. Listening is shown here as a real and practical thing a child can do. Sit down. Go quiet. Wait. Recognise.
Written for the bedtime hour, Listen For It features warm Australian outback illustrations, a sing along song page, and a set of gentle activity pages at the back. It pairs with the animated read along episode on the One More Story channel, where Mr. H reads each story beside the campfire with Gerry close by.
Proudly Australian. Made for bedtime.
