Overview
When paper conservator Maja Furrer receives a topographic map with its compass rose neatly cut away, the attached rescue report claims a three-person team reached the closed north ridge. Then the report's signer is found dead at an old trail shelter.
No one can name the rescued walker. Two copies of the report disagree on the time. Several association members had access to the map drawer.
Inspector Luca Marti follows the official investigation through a close-knit hiking association; Maja is asked to explain what the paper can-and cannot-prove. A fold holds one part of the story. A missing name hides another. As old friends defend their memories and an apparently ordinary rescue begins to unravel, Maja must keep evidence separate from assumption before another walker follows the wrong north.
Set in Spiez and the Bernese Oberland, *The Map with No North* is Book Three of the Lake Thun Archive Mysteries-a fair-play Swiss cozy with an archival puzzle, a non-graphic murder, and a community learning how to correct its own record.
