It covers a relatively complete range of categories, including the following twelve sections: exogenous febrile diseases (cold damage, warm heat disorders, and epidemic febrile diseases), dysentery, malaria, hemorrhagic disorders, sudden collapse, throat and tongue disorders, convulsive diseases, swelling conditions, urinary blockage, miscellaneous diseases, miscellaneous discourses, and gynecological disorders. The book elaborates on both the fundamental theories of traditional Chinese medicine and various clinical disciplines. In this work, Luo Shaofang proposes that cold damage, warm heat disorders, and epidemic febrile diseases are distinct conditions and should not be treated indiscriminately. He holds that epidemic febrile diseases are contagious, with pathogenic foul qi entering through the mouth and nose. Regarding dysentery, he believes that Liu Hejian and Zhu Danxi's use of cold-cooling herbs, as well as Zhang Jingyue's use of warm-tonifying methods, are both biased, and advocates primarily promoting the free flow of yang qi. As for malaria, he argues that its cause is not simply external contraction or internal injury as stated in ancient texts, but a combination of both, resulting from phlegm stagnation obstructing the channels; therefore, treating phlegm is the key. In treating hemorrhagic disorders, he emphasizes differentiating based on severity, depth, and pattern differentiation, opposing the indiscriminate use of blood-quickening stasis-expelling or warm-tonifying methods. He also provides analyses of various other conditions. Regarding the Four Great Masters of the Jin-Yuan period, he acknowledges their outstanding insights but notes that none achieved perfection, each having certain shortcomings. The book contains a wealth of empirical insights, with many diseases accompanied by rhymed formulas for easy memorization, along with listed formulas and medicinals for reference.
