Metadata Murders
Overview
Internet security expert, Benjamin Hackwell, has put his life back together when he receives e-mail from his daughter, Caitline. Eager for any communication from her, Ben watches in horror as Caitline stars in her own snuff flick. Determined to find out if what he has seen is real, Ben discovers that all of Caitlines bank accounts are closed, her phone is disconnected, and her whereabouts unknown. Bens investigation plunges him into the underworld of the dark Web where data is hidden. The electronic information that identifies and furthers mans noblest ambitions also can promote identity theft, virtual prostitution, and murder by remote control. The metadata that surrounds that information and makes activities such as text messaging and online banking possible can be manipulated to deceive, enslave, and destroy as well. Metadata Murders is a saga of mans definition of what it means to be human. Beyond his programming skill or knowledge of the Internet, Bens quest challenges the truth of human commitment. It tests whether mans love for others can triumph over the basest aspects of our existence and bring true knowledge to light. A journey to the dark side of cyberspace uncovers an incomprehensible tangle of connections in this thriller. Newly divorced computer-security expert Ben Hackwell is shocked when his college-age daughter Caitline goes missing and resurfaces in a sado-masochistic video on a porn website. The plot thickens when Ben finds his best friend and web guru Hoot dead in a virtual-reality bodysuit while logged on to a session with Caitlines online avatar. Soon, Ben himself is targeted by web assassins whose tactic is to send massive power surges through the internet to electrocute people at their keyboards. Like a data-mining program with delusions of grandeur, librarian and metadata theorist Fietzer correlates seemingly random associations into a unified theory that grows as Ben explains it to the hostile FBI agent and Minneapolis gumshoe who are hassling him. -Kirkus Discoveries "William Fietzer's METADATA MURDERS is a fast-track race through the dark underbelly of the Internet, combining conspiracy, pornography, cutting-edge technology, terrorism, and murder. Not to be missed!"James Rollins, bestselling author of SANDSTORM and MAP OF BONES.
