A separate chapter, having calibrated a simulation framework with guidance on commercially popular Sentauras and Silvaco TCAD software, enables researchers and students to investigate and develop new structures of nanoscale devices, for improved performance. A separate chapter has been provided, on photonic integrated circuits, to clarify the importance of the integration of optics with electronics.
