Nature Rising
Overview
When Grace Madison's husband of thirty-five years died suddenly of a heart attack, she felt cheated. During the last five years of their marriage she and Lewis had believed that they had 'gotten it' and understood what 'cleaving' to a spouse really meant. That kind of love and understanding was rare and Grace convinced herself that the love that she and Lewis had shared could never be duplicated. For five years she contented herself with her church, her volunteer activities, and her grandson. Ironically, she was surprised and embarrassed when she discovered that living vicariously through other people would stir up feelings in her that she thought were dead. After all, she was nearly sixty years old and having an intense sexual desire at her age was considered improper. But when Jessie Green and Arthur Dobbs come into her life, her rigid behavior goes out the window and she finds herself lusting after them like a teenager. Jessie is smooth and worldly but fifteen years her senior. Arthur Dobbs is unsophisticated and down-to-earth and closer to her age. They both hold the promise of making her happy, but demons are no respecter of persons and she learns that each man has his. As Grace copes with her suspicions, fears, and doubts, she remembers what had taken thirty-five years for Lewis and her to learn: Faith in what you feel in your heart oftentimes trumps everything else.
