Nibble & Kuhn
Overview
Legal thriiler om order of Robert B Parker - commercial fiction Booklist (09/15/2009): The last thing Derek Dover needs during the year hes up for partner at the venerable Boston law firm of Nibble & Kuhn is an office romance. Yet hes fallen in love with his associate Maria Parma, and she with him, despite her being informally engaged to a longtime family friend. The hopelessness of his personal life is mirrored by his professional situation: hes given the ongoing case against a factory charged with causing cancer in seven young boys with its runoff chemicals. But the case, an unusual one for the firm, has been so badly preparedby a partner leaving to become a judgethat Dover sees little or no chance of success. At the same time, the new drill sergeantlike office manager directs the firms move from its shabby quarters to a new, marble-laden building, just as business falls off, and staff is reduced. Schmahmann (Empire Settings, 2001) takes a sardonic look at the law and justice in this smoothly told love story from a mans point of view; a bit slow at times but ultimately satisfying.(Reprinted with permission of Booklist, copyright 2009, American Library Association.)
