Overview
It's the summer of 1935, in the heart of the Great Depression, and the police of the small Ontario town of Chaseford are up to their knees in another gruesome murder investigation: a body has been discovered in Deadman's Marsh, not far from the train tracks. A wide-ranging investigation of missing persons cases isn't turning up many leads, leaving Chief Petrovic and his constables, Joel, Jay, Peter, and Jake, scratching their heads over how it got there. Their only clue is a suspicious man wearing face paint that was seen in the area-could he be involved somehow? Once again, Joel finds himself called upon to use his unusual ability to contact essences-disembodied personalities attached to the earthly realm through a violent demise-to solve the case. What horrors will his supernatural friends help him uncover? One Foot Out of the Grave is the fourth installment in the Joel Franklin Mystery series, following Lightning at 200 Durham Street, Where's the Rest of the Body?, and Terror on the Way. Set in a small town in rural Ontario, Canada, with a cast of recurring characters, this historical whodunit, with overtones of the paranormal, harks back to the Golden Age of detective fiction. A real treat for readers of all ages.
