The great importance of these papers largely stems from their being the only source of information on certain activities of the county government prior to the courthouse fire of 1869. These papers date from 1825 to 1870. Papers include summons, adjudged debts, promissory notes, receipts, bonds, fines, tax assessments, and personal accounts. Approximately 1200 persons are mentioned. A brief genealogy of the Gilliam family is included.
