Synopsis:
The international dope trade creates the backdrop for this espionage adventure.
From Iran to France, from Italy to Switzerland, a group of United Nations narcotics agents trail a collection of assorted thugs -- heroin and opium pushers, hotheaded mobsters, strung-out women, and drug lords, among others.
When his British colleague is drowned by the ruthless traffickers, an American agent must still continue his pursuit. He has to locate the source of the deadly substances creating an epidemic of addiction at home and abroad.
Notes:
"The Poppy Is Also a Flower" was shown first on ABC-TV on April 22, 1966 in a shorter, 80-minute version, compared to its theatrical length of 100 minutes. Financiers of the antidrug adventure include the Xerox corporation and, its primary backer, the Telsun Foundation under the auspices of the United Nations. The film is noted for being based on a story outline by James Bond-creator Ian Fleming; it was his last written work.
Additional cast: Jocelyn Lane.
Distributed by Comet Films and Morin M. Scott. A Telsun Foundation (Euan Lloyd) production.
