Overview
Who makes decisions, and how can people care for a community together?
President Words introduces children ages 4 and up to sixteen words about U.S. public life, including vote, leader, president, law, citizen, congress and peace. Familiar places and objects, such as the White House, the Capitol, flags and ballot boxes, give abstract ideas a concrete starting point.
Short explanations and picture questions connect government with experiences children can discuss: listening to another person's idea, choosing a leader and sharing a public space.
Four activities invite families to notice a public place, take turns leading, plan a park and preserve a memory. Caregiver notes add context about elections and different government roles.
Use this book for family reading, early civics and preschool social studies conversations.
