Rare Objects of Atomic Physics : Beyond the Traditional Curriculum
Overview
The present book can be considered as a supplement to traditional courses of atomic physics taught in technical universities. Here the objects of atomic physics not included in such courses serve as the subject of consideration. Such objects include negative, molecular and multi-charged ions, clusters, Rydberg atoms, vibrational excited and excimer molecules, fullerenes, carbon nanotubes, and graphene. The main physical and chemical properties of these objects have been considered, along with methods of their production and their role in nature phenomena, laboratory experiments and modern technologies. The book consists of two chapters. The first chapter is devoted to consideration of atomic particles and structures formed from such particles. The second chapter is devoted to molecular structures formed from carbon atoms. Such structures included first of all fullerene molecules, carbon nanotubes and graphene, which were discovered comparatively recently, and immediately after the discovery they constituted one of the fastest growing areas of modern science.
