INSTANT USA TODAY BESTSELLER!The rebellion's fight turns into a battle of the heart in this pulse-pounding conclusion to the Crimson Sails trilogy by New York Times bestselling author Katee Robert. Nox has been steadfastly working for the rebellion for years. They don't ask for much in return, except for one crucial condition: their ex, the noble Bastian, stays as far away from them as possible. To say things ended poorly between them is an understatement . . . and it's the only relationship Nox has never quite recovered from. But now the rules have changed. Siobhan, the rebel leader, has emerged from hiding to tell Nox that Bastian's been taken captive and the secrets he holds tight are in danger of being revealed. The fate of the entire rebellion now rests on Nox and Siobhan's ability to rescue Bastian from a Cŵn Annwn ship. Saving Bastian is only the start of their hardships, as the trio is tracked by ferocious pirates across Threshold. And Nox's complicated relationships and entanglements with Bastian and Siobhan put not only their life at risk but their heart on the line.

Katee Robert delivers a satisfying conclusion to their queer swashbuckling fantasy series with Rebel in the Deep. High stakes and deep water have dominated the Crimson Sails trilogy, and in this go-round, the leader of the rebellion is forced out of hiding when she chooses love over duty.
There are far more dangerous things in the treacherous waters of Threshold, a watery world between worlds, than the fabled tentacled monsters of the deep: mainly, the Cŵn Annwn, the ruthless and oppressive rulers of the realm. Each decision and action has dire consequences, and Robert packs each sentence with details that keep your brain racing as fast as your heart.
A favored member of the Cŵn Annwn, Nox captains the Audacity with fearlessness, fairness and determination. But Nox, who heals quickly and can channel more magic than most users, is secretly working for the rebellion, and was courted and converted by the mysterious leader of the resistance herself, Siobhan. Nox’s only condition for signing up: Siobhan must never speak of Bastian, who broke Nox’s heart and is now Siobhan’s lover. But defiant, heroic Bastian has been taken prisoner by the very overlords who seek to quash the rebellion. Siobhan is forced to enlist Nox to help save the day, which means their anonymity will soon be a thing of the past.
Robert’s wrap-up of the Crimson Sails trilogy has less sex and more plot than the previous two installments, a wise choice that honors the complicated, intertwined nature of the story and provides the character development and world building necessary to bring the rebellion to a satisfying conclusion. Rebel in the Deep is an adventure, sure, but it’s also a great love story. Bastian is more an afterthought—the “and” in a peanut butter and jelly sandwich—but he’s the pivot point between the Nox of before and the Nox of after, and he helps Siobhan understand the complete, complex Nox. That’s not to say he's unnecessary: As a throuple, Nox, Bastian and Siobhan are a force to be reckoned with. The heart wants what the heart wants, even in the face of legions of oppressors and pirates and magical beasts.
