Overview
Aaron Riley, a former patient of Dr. Elle, returns in this second novel only to seek revenge against his psychiatrist by getting personal information on him. He pretends to be an orderly on the hospital unit that Dr. Elle's wife, Lisa, works at in order to get personal info from her. Aaron succeeds in ingratiating himself with Lisa and ends up helping her clean up her mother's home before she moves to an assisted living facility. In Lisa's mother's house Aaron finds several paintings by an artist who was friends with Lisa's mother, Elsa. They were both from Vienna Austria and escaped the Holocaust in 1938. As Aaron looks into the paintings he finds himself transported into the past and gets to interact with members of these Viennese intellectuals who are trying to live their lives while escaping the onslaught of the Nazi fascists who are taking away their freedoms and worldly possessions. What ensues is a psychological thriller encased in historical fiction. It is a tale of anger, hatred, self discovery and redemption.
