He holds a Ph.D. from the Science Policy Research Unit (SPRU) at the University of Sussex, UK, as well as a Master's degree in Management and a Bachelor's degree in Engineering from Tsinghua University. His long-term research focuses on China's industrial development and innovation policy. He has published nearly one hundred papers in domestic and international journals and is the author of monographs including Innovation and Industrial Development in China and The Dual Role of the State: A National Innovation System Theory of Development and Transformation. His co-authored work with Professor Lu Feng, Policy Choices for Developing the Indigenous Intellectual Property Automotive Industry in China, along with his related industrial research, has played a significant role in promoting the transformation of China's policy towards indigenous innovation.
