Movie Reviews
Reviews:
"Sofia Coppola's smart, breezy comedy about a marriage that may be in trouble and a meddling father who steps in to save or destroy it stars Bill Murray in peerless deadpan form, bouncing off a superb foil in Rashida Jones. Oh, it's also a sparkling ode to the Manhattan we all miss." - 09/22/2020 Hollywood Reporter
"[A] boozy humanistic hang-out caper movie, one that’s light-spirited and compelling, mordantly alive to the ins and outs of marriage, and a winning showcase for Murray’s aging-like-fine-whiskey brand of world-weary deviltry." - 09/22/2020 Variety
3.5 stars out of 4 -- "ON THE ROCKS plays like a hardwired Italian comedy, from the silly surveillance job Murray and Jones pull on Wayans to the quick jag to a gorgeous resort in the third act." - 09/24/2020 RogerEbert.com
3.5 stars out of 5 -- "Coppola proceeds as she usually does: with the veneer of a light touch in the construction of her scenes, and an attention to her characters’ lifestyle that never bleeds into self-seriousness." - 10/02/2020 Rolling Stone
"It’s an irresistible star turn, loose and funny and comfortable, that leans on Murray’s still potent charisma and his present reputation as a carefree celebrity..." - 09/25/2020 A.V. Club
"It isn’t surprising how effortlessly Bill Murray takes possession of Sofia Coppola’s gently comic ON TEH ROCKS -- though this hijacking may be more of a sly directorial surrender. Casting Murray is a surefire way to win over an audience." - 10/01/2020 New York Times
4 stars out of 5 -- "There’s a quiet, often intoxicating charm to the rhythms of this film." - 09/23/2020 Empire
4 stars out of 5 -- "Sofia Coppola’s latest emerges as a beguiling, souffle-light comedy that could be an aged-up companion piece to the writer/director’s SOMEWHERE." - 10/02/2020 Total Film
