Sagas of The Ridge : The Whisper of The Leaves: There once was a time when justice WAS the law.
Overview
In 1937 Arkansas an eighteen year-old farm boy is murdered in a case of mistaken identity. Marshall Bentwood, the boy's brother and the real intended victim, decides to mete out justice and ambushes the two bootlegging murders.. He knows he's done what's right, but he also knows retribution is likely from the families. So to protect his own family, he heads west by rail.Along the way he meets destitute families, traveling minstrels, railroad "bulls" and human disasters which test the boy's fortitude, honesty and faith.Though he expected never to return, word of the abduction of his sister, brings him home to Wynne. What follows is a deadly meeting in the snowy woods of the Ridge which brings this bloody feud to a stunning conclusion. The Ridge: The Whisper of the Leaves, the first of a series of books about the Crowley's Ridge area of Eastern Arkansas, is the story of the type of character and courage not often seen today, but exemplified by one member of what Tom Brokaw called The Greatest Generation.
