Movie Reviews

Reviews:
"[L]ess a coming-of-age film than a series of crucial episodes in that process, SKATE KITCHEN mixes dreaminess and disillusionment as it observes the choices Camille makes and the ensuing fallout..." - 08/08/2018 Hollywood Reporter

"[A]n irresistible hangout movie, offering a thoroughly millennial, vérité spin on ’80s skater classics like THRASHIN'..." - 01/21/2018 Variety

3 stars out of 4 -- "[A] solid hangout movie as well as a band-of-buddies film....It's also a movie that deliberately blurs the line between documentary and fiction: the main characters are all real New York skaters who are playing characters who are very close to themselves in real life." - 08/10/2018 RogerEbert.com

"Moselle and her cinematographer, Shabier Kirchner, capture their characters’ moves with a fluidity that toggles between the visceral and the lyrical." - 08/16/2018 Los Angeles Times

"This movie is a useful reminder that each subsequent generation of New York children gets the city’s magic where they find it. SKATE KITCHEN is a depiction of a particular kind of hangout freedom that’s at its most beautiful when it’s nearly languid..." - 08/09/2018 New York Times

"[I]ts perspective, which brings some much-needed diversity to the traditionally white-male face of skateboarding, is valuable and refreshing, as is its message about female friendship." - 08/08/2018 A.V. Club

4 stars out of 5 -- "[A] lyrical, affecting feminist drama that wowed plenty at this year’s Sundance." - 09/18/2018 Empire

"[A] gritty yet dreamlike semi-doc from Crystal Moselle in which a shy, determined skateboarder finds her clan." - 12/27/2018 Boston Globe
