Overview
Florida transplant Colin Manning is probably the dorkiest, dweebiest, nerdiest kid in the senior class at Emerson High School. But don't underestimate him; he was born in the eye of a hurricane, and survived every storm life threw at him, armed only with his mother's love. When the political climate in his home state became a threat to their survival, she pulled up stakes and moved with him to Minnesota, where they could both live, free from book bans and "don't say gay" laws.
Minnesota is a welcome change from the Orwellian dystopia Florida was becoming. Colin soon makes many new friends, and an enemy or two-like Brad Wolf, the arrogant captain of the basketball team who's locked in an internal struggle nobody else knows about. But Brad's suppressed emotions come boiling to the surface when a school shooter has him at point blank range... and Colin is the unlikely hero who saves his life!
