Now, before you get your panties all up in a bunch, what I am NOT saying is that those I coach are equivalent to that of chicken excrement. Remember this, number 1; This is only a saying and within any saying there is meaning. Number 2; Do not get all emotional about things. As a coach, you have assumed a serious responsibility as a real leader. This requires real leader skills to which one is having the ability to filter out emotion within your tasks as a coach. I am not saying that you should ignore or discredit emotions, emotions can be an especially important element of the coaching experience. What I am saying is that you must filter them, control them, and never make a decision, judgment, or statement based purely on emotion. In the leadership world, this is called emotional intelligence. It is the ability to recognize and measure emotions in order to maintain control of the environment in which you are leading. Emotions can be the critical tool that will help inspire your athletes to victory or discourage them into defeatism.Now, back to the meaning of the saying. One part of why I love coaching is that every year, every season, the dynamics of building a team is different. Not one season is the same. Even if you have the same kids, changes occur within the dynamic of those athletes that create new challenges or offer fresh possibilities.
