Movie Reviews

Synopsis:
Mr. Topaze, a meek schoolteacher, is fired from his job after refusing to change the failing grade of a student with influential parents. Ever resilient, Topaze turns misfortune into gain by entering into a profitable enterprise with a powerful but corrupt politician. In no time at all, the former teacher has transformed himself from an honest, timid civilian into a feared and manipulative businessman.

Notes:
Marcel Pagnol's play "Topaze" was originally staged in the 1920s. Four film versions were made of the play: Louis Gasnier's in 1932, Harry d'Abbabie d'Arrast's in 1933 (starring John Barrymore and Myrna Loy), and Pagnol's in 1936 and 1951. The play was also the basis for "Mr. Topaze/I Love Money" (1961) by Peter Sellers.
