Triad of Development : Socio-Political Perspective of Sub-Saharan Africa
Overview
National development is not a miracle, but well-coordinated and concerted efforts of all citizens in all spheres of life; political, economic, cultural, religion, education, security, and service providers. Organizing people in all these areas requires visionary leadership. Good leadership, good governance and good management of resources; both human and natural influence national development.
Bad politics affects ordinary citizens because of corruption, human rights violations and exploitation by these leaders. While good leaders make good decisions because they are competent, vision is their currency. Good leadership produces good governance. People look to leaders for guidance, direction, and answers to their problems. Good leaders who produce results are men and women who are emotionally stable and mature. Emotionally mature leaders have more accurate awareness of their strengths and weaknesses, and they are oriented towards self-improvement; such leaders are both comfortable with themselves and are open to critical feedback. Leaders of this nature are strategic and have the ability to translate strategy into action; they lead the creation of an appropriate strategy. They are capable to anticipate, envisioning, maintaining flexibility, and they empower others.
For a country to develop, management of resources is crucial, because everything done must go according to the plan, because planning provides direction and reduces uncertainties. When this is done economic development is possible. Planning specifies the goals to be achieved and decides in advance to achieve those goals. Planning is important for any institution to thrive.
Economic development is an important activity for any country. Development is a multidimensional process involving major changes in social structures, population attitudes, and national institutions, as well as the acceleration of economic growth, the reduction of inequality, in its essence, must present a whole gamut of change by which an entire social system, turned to the diverse basic needs and involving aspirations of individuals and social groups within that system, moves away from a condition of life widely perceived as unsatisfactory towards a situation or condition of life regarded as materially and spiritually better.
Economic development happens in a globalized setting; no country is an island where all countries need each other. Globalization aims at making the world a global community. It has made it possible for business transactions to strive globally without people stepping out of their immediate environment.
