True Selves
Overview
Forty-seven-year-old Maria Hicks wants to get fit. So she signs up for an aerobics class, puts on her new yellow workout suit, and heads for the gym. The last thing that Maria is interested in finding at the gym is a man.
A devout Catholic and abuse-weary divorcee, Maria finds comfort-not to mention employment-at her parish church. So when Harvey Lebenstern, a Jewish playboy, literally comes crashing into her world at an aerobics class, Maria intends to keep it platonic.
Harvey, who is only at the gym because his doctor told him to exercise, finds himself entangled with Maria. She is totally different than the trophy-women he romances. Besides, he learned years ago that love was not to be trusted. So he threw himself into running his business and avoiding marriage.
But their friendship evolves, and the two singletons start to reconsider what they believe is really important in life-and with the help of family and friends, rediscover themselves.
With compassion, grace, and humor, True Selves tells the story of two people from different faiths who step forward together and learn that love can heal even the most wounded heart.
