Two Words
Overview
Two male acquaintances whose wives know each other meet at one of the homes. The wealthy attorney is the host, and he tells the other man, who is an unsuccessful writer of fiction, that he has a surprise for him. They both have ulterior motives. The meeting and the story are both short: 5,750 words. Most of the talk is about the writer's failure to interest any literary agent in reading his work, then near the end, matters get uncomfortably personal and both men learn some unexpected details about themselves, each other, their wives, and the difference between the words "realistic" and "reality." The reader also learns the difference between "yogi" and "yogini," and if you don't know, it's worth the cost of this story and your fifteen minutes to read it.
