Advanced Maintenance Officer Training : A Focus on Ammos, Return on Investment, Staying the Course
Overview
The Air Force invests millions of dollars annually to ensure its forces remain trained, proficient and developed. Some career fields have more advanced training regimens in addition to the basic training courses. For example, one of the more extensive courses is the USAF Weapons School (WS) at Nellis AFB, an approximate 6-month course for predominately the rated community. The WS has conducted advanced training for nearly 60 years. More recently AMMOS began training and education operations for the aircraft maintenance/munitions officer community. Recently, questions have been asked regarding the actual viability of the advanced maintenance officer training to include a particular recurring theme of return on investment (ROI). Opinion surveys suggest a marginal ROI that justifies continuing AMMOS training while offering other options to consider for advanced maintenance/munitions officer training.
