Let Me Know That You Know : OCD, Anxiety, & God Throughout
Overview
My counselor called it scrupulosity-a specific flavor of obsessive-compulsive disorder that explained my unquenchable fear of damnation and the incessant, blasphemous thoughts forever threatening to make that notion a reality.
As far as I can remember, fear had always been there. What began as general worry and complaining of phantom stomach aches in kindergarten turned into full-blown hypochondria by the time I was a teenager. Then, as I started taking Christianity more seriously in high school, I quickly traded in my fear of death on a physical level for a fear of death on an eternal one. This is where the intrusive thoughts began, setting in motion the absolute fight of my life.
My goal with this book is to give a raw, unflinching view into what it's like growing up with OCD in hopes that anyone else with this disorder can see themselves in my story and not feel so alone. And for those specifically struggling with scrupulosity, I want them to witness the dire depths into which I fell, and how God still met me there. I want them to see that victory over this disorder is possible, and the journey I needed to take to find it, so that they can experience that same victory for themselves.
I wouldn't wish OCD on my worst enemy. It is a cruel, dastardly disorder that takes the things you hold most dear and weaponizes them against you. And yet, from the moment the first unwanted, blasphemous thought flashed across my mind and throughout every anguished, trembling moment that flowed forth since, God was using it to prove to me, in the most definite and tangible of ways, that no matter how hard my besieged mind tried to convince me otherwise, I could never outrun His love.
