Set against the backdrop of structural changes in China's domestic and external environment as well as the rise of artificial intelligence, this work introduces and systematically elaborates on the conceptual essence and theoretical logic of the unilateral opening-up strategy for the first time. It highlights the strategy's significant implications for China's own development and global governance, while also providing a sober analysis of the practical challenges to its further implementation and corresponding countermeasures. The author posits that unilateral opening-up is a proactive, inclusive, and flexible strategic choice. It neither represents wholesale acceptance of Western rules nor a narrow-minded pursuit of self-isolation. He holds a Bachelor of Laws and a Master of Laws from Peking University, and a Ph.D. in Political Science from Princeton University. He is the editor of the China Policy Series for Routledge and co-editor of the Series on Contemporary China for World Scientific.
