Over the past three decades, its unique features in economic production and social reproduction, as well as the interactive evolution between its internal space and external environment, have become a vivid case study for examining China's migrant population, urban socio-economic development, and the dynamics of institutions, power, and policies since the reform and opening-up era. Leveraging the advantage of shared hometown connections, the author conducted on-site investigations in Zhejiang Village over a six-year period in the mid-1990s. Immersing in the daily lives of the Zhejiang Villagers, the author employed an almost documentary-style writing approach to meticulously present the details of this mobile group's settlement, development, and transformation.
