Overview
L Zuqian (1137-1181) was an outstanding thinker and historian of the Qiandao and Chunxi periods of the Southern Song Dynasty. He was the founder of the Jinhua School (Wu Learning) in eastern Zhejiang and its master, regarded as one of the "Three Eminent Sages of the Southeast" alongside Zhu Xi and Zhang Shi. Free from sectarian bias, he synthesized the strengths of various contemporary schools of thought. He was also the organizer and moderator of the historically renowned "Goose Lake Temple Meeting," a debate between Zhu Xi and Lu Jiuyuan on the similarities and differences in their philosophical views. His thought reflects the general intellectual trends of Southern Song society.
